Thoracic spine mobilisation for upper back pain

Thoracic spine mobilisation for upper back pain

At Torbay Physiotherapy and Hand therapy our specialist physios will talk to you about how your spine has become sore and what we can do to help you manage or relieve your pain. We will help you understand the anatomy of your spine and the effect varying postures and activities have on your neck and back.

During the initial visit the you will be asked questions about your medical history and about the nature of your spinal pain. The physiotherapist will then examine the affected spinal joints and musculature. This enables us to discuss and form a personalized treatment plan with short and long term goals to help get you back doing all your usual activities.

Treatment will be aimed at working towards achieving these goals by using pain relieving techniques, joint mobilization, heat, massage, stretching and personalized core strengthening programs. Treatment techniques will be based on the most up to date research.

We will try to keep you in your existing activities by discussing changes in standing and sitting postures, lifting techniques, work stations, etc.., eventually enabling you to return to your previous lifestyle.

Jan and Christina recently attended the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapy conference in Rotorua themed "back to the future". This course covered a range of topics from osteoarthritis to disorders of the neck. It really raised the awareness of seeking early treatment and advice after a concussion to reduce long term symptoms such as neck pain, headaches and dizziness.
They had a blast and loved the excuse to get dressed up!
